Whole Formulas Inflammation Relief, 60 ct
Whole Formulas Inflammation Relief features white willow extract, derived from the bark of the white willow tree (Salix alba). It contains flavonoids and salicin, a chemical compound similar to aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) that offers analgesic and anti-inflammatory benefits.
The use of white willow bark dates back to the ancient Greek physician Hippocrates (400 BC), who treated fever and inflammation by having patients chew on the bark. Its record of use in China for the same ailments dates back as early as 500 BC.
The white willow extract in this formula is standardized to contain 25% salicin.
Additional Herbs in Inflammation Relief:
Ginger Root
Ginger root is technically a rhizome, or rootstalk; its subterranean stem produces shoots above and below ground. High in antioxidants, ginger is an excellent defense against cellular damage. It contains powerful anti-inflammatory compounds and is used to aid GI distress (nausea in particular). Categorized as a “warming” herb in Ayurveda, ginger promotes circulation, immune and metabolic function and detoxification through the lymphatic system.
Holy Basil Leaf
Holy basil has been grown in India for over 3,000 years. Also known as “tulsi” or “the incomparable one,” it is considered a sacred plant in this region. In Ayurveda, the traditional Hindu system of medicine, tulsi is said to be an “elixir of life,” used for centuries to treat cardiovascular and pulmonary issues, arthritis and eye disorders. Holy basil is an adaptogenic herb that may promote an increased resistance to the damaging effects of stress. Adaptogens are also said to promote longevity, including healthy mood, energy and endurance, and may offer anti-inflammatory benefits.
Turmeric Root
Turmeric has been a part of Siddha medicine for thousands of years, one of the oldest medical systems known to man. It contains curcurmin, which acts like an antioxidant in the body and exhibits anti-inflammatory action.
Green Tea Leaf
Green tea is one of the oldest teas in the world. Its use in China dates back over 4,000 years and has become a deeply ingrained part of Chinese tradition. The polyphenol compound EGCG, found naturally in green tea, is anti-inflammatory in nature, fights cellular damage from free radicals and may promote a healthy metabolism and cardiovascular health.
Rosemary Leaf
Rosemary, a member of the mint family, is quite high in carnosic acid, a powerful antioxidant, as well as calcium, iron and vitamin B6. It also contains rosmarinic acid, which may display anti-inflammatory, antiviral and antibacterial effects.
Boswellia Gum
Boswellia is a large tree native to India, Africa and the Middle East. Its trunk is tapped for its resin, or “gum,” commonly known as frankincense. This gum contains boswellic acids, which offer potent anti-inflammatory benefits.
