Chaste tree berry (Vitex angus-castus), commonly known as “vitex” is nicknamed “the women’s herb” due to its long history of use in female reproductive medicine. It was a popular tonic in ancient Greece, where it was used to balance female hormones and “curb the lust” of wives while their husbands were at war.
Chaste tree berry supports balanced reproductive cycles. The peppercorn-like berries and their seeds are dried for use in many medicinal preparations, including extracts and capsules.
The infamous Greek physician Hippocrates wrote: "If blood flows from the womb, let the woman drink dark wine in which the leaves of the Chaste Tree have been steeped.”
